A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
