Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period such as this with results like these.”
He stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
