Los Angeles Experiences Record-Breaking Heat Just One Week After Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of heavy downpours that caused flooding across sections of the city, LA is now grappling with unusually warm weather for this time of year.
All-Time High Readings
During the day Friday, the thermometer reached 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on NWS maps for the region.
Safety Alerts
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leaving anyone unattended in a car.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sharp rise in mercury arrives just after a powerful winter storm that battered the state last week. That system delivered thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to the mountains, triggering mudslide risks for millions residents.

Temperatures Easing
Looking ahead a cooldown is coming. Temperatures were predicted to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Additional areas that hit the 90-degree mark featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to see the high eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown LA can expect readings in the eighties, with cooler weather likely for the following week.
