It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was underway.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the confidence to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship should hear.

In recent days a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those injuries have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
