The English squad will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they secure the expected entry for a tournament hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since eight years ago, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Demonstration

The tournament was launched at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the site by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be expelled from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were raised with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The opening game of the European Championship will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will include the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to families and help reach a more diverse set of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Locations and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
