The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
