The second-hand marketplace Users Express Frustration Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: earlier, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
